Man Shot By Fremont Police Hospitalized In Intensive Care
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- An allegedly knife-wielding man who was shot by Fremont police Monday evening underwent surgery and remained in intensive care as of Tuesday morning, a police spokeswoman said.
The 54-year-old man was shot by police officers after a confrontation in his front yard in the 4700 block of Baffin Avenue at 6:56 p.m., police spokeswoman Officer Geneva Bosques said.
Police received reports that the man had threatened his wife and a second woman who lives with the couple with a knife. Both women fled the home and called police, saying the man was still on the home's front porch carrying the knife.
He was outside with the knife when the officers arrived and after a brief confrontation two officers shot him. A third officer running up to the home witnessed the shooting, Bosques said.
Less than 30 seconds passed between officers arriving and the shooting, Bosques said. She did not know what led up to the shooting, how many times the man was shot or where he was shot and said police would release more information later this week.
The man was taken to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries requiring surgery. As of Tuesday morning, he remained in intensive care, Bosques said.
Fremont police are continuing to investigate the shooting. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office is investigating as well, according to police.
