Drinking Water Available For Vallejo Residents Affected By Broken Main
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- UPDATE -- A broken water main in Vallejo left residents west of Interstate Highway 80 with little or no water pressure, according to Vallejo city officials.
Officials estimated that full service would be restored by 4 a.m. Sunday.
Water was available Saturday afternoon to Vallejo residents affected by the break, according to the Vallejo Emergency Operations Center.
Water became available at about 2:30 p.m. at fire station 23 at 900 Redwood Street and at fire station 28 at 970 Nimitz Avenue on Mare Island, EOC spokeswoman Elicia Ricciardi said.
Residents who cannot leave home can have water delivered to them by calling the EOC at (707) 648-5526, Ricciardi said.
Water will be available until 8 p.m., she said.
The break is affecting mainly residents west of Interstate Highway 80 and Mare Island, city officials said.
The break is located under the railroad tracks between Sereno Drive and Tuolumne Street, city officials said.
The officials said tap water in the city is safe to drink, but they are asking residents to avoid using water in the affected area until the break is repaired.
Hospitals in the area have sufficient water, city officials said.
The 20-inch main was reported broken sometime Friday night. Repair crews were deployed immediately and have been on the scene ever since, according to city officials.
