Vallejo Officials Say Water Pressure Restored Sunday After Major Main Break On Friday

VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- Vallejo city officials say that service should be completely restored Sunday morning after a broken water main left many utility customers with little or no water pressure Friday and Saturday.

The water is safe to drink, but it may be discolored and could stain clothing or dishes. Customers may see silt or colored water at the tap, and oxygen introduced into the system may give water a milky white appearance, according to city officials.

To remedy this problem customers are advised to run their outside water taps for 5 to ten minutes, until the water runs clear.

The incident was reported Friday night, after the 20-inch Broadway Water Main broke between Sereno Drive and Tuolumne Street, parallel to Broadway Street.

The service outage affected roughly 20 blocks in the area east of Broadway Street, west of Peach Street, south of Lewis Brown Drive and north of Sereno Drive, according to city officials.

Just before 8:30 a.m., the city issued a statement saying they expected water service to be completely restored for all customers by 9 a.m. City officials were not immediately available to confirm that, however.

Further details were not immediately available.
