Man Fatally Shot By Sunnyvale Police Accused Of Robbery, 2nd Suspect Wanted In Homicide
SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- A man who was shot and killed by Sunnyvale public safety officers on Saturday afternoon was identified Monday as 23-year-old San Diego resident Allen Matthew Baker III, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
Baker had a no bail warrant in San Diego County for robbery, according to Sunnyvale police.
He was shot and killed after allegedly fleeing from officers responding to a report of suspicious activity at the Motel 6 at 806 W. Ahwanee Ave., according to Sunnyvale Capt. Jeff Hunter.

The officers responded at about 4 p.m. after a caller reported two women rented a room at the motel and kept going back and forth between their room and a black Jaguar XF sedan they had arrived in, where at least one male was inside, according to Hunter.
Two men ran from the Jaguar when officers arrived.
One of them, later identified as Baker, ran south of the motel through a parking lot and then turned on to San Aleso Avenue, where officers saw him drop a high-capacity magazine with ammunition as he crossed the street, according to Hunter.
Baker ended up behind a commercial complex and fled to nearby bushes when an officer in a patrol vehicle caught up with him, Hunter said.
The officer stepped out of the vehicle and followed the suspect, who he saw holding a handgun, and repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon, Hunter said.
Baker did not follow the demands and allegedly aimed the gun at the officer, who fired nine rounds at Baker, according to Hunter. The two were less than 10 feet apart.
Additional officers were called to the scene to perform life-saving efforts on Baker, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Hunter.
The handgun the suspect aimed at the officer was loaded and another loaded firearm was found in his backpack, according to Hunter.
The officer who shot at the suspect is an 18-year veteran of the department and was placed on paid administrative leave, according to Hunter.
The second suspect managed to get away despite officers searching the area for hours. Police said he is believed to be Shawn Lamont Brown, a 19-year-old Fresno resident wanted there in connection with a homicide.
When officers arrived at the motel Saturday, Brown fled north on San Aleso Avenue into a commercial complex, Hunter said.
Emergency dispatchers received a 911 call soon after the shooting of an armed suspect who ran through a home on West Ferndale Avenue, Hunter said.
Officers searched for Brown in the area for more than six hours with the assistance of other local agencies but were unable to find him.
A third man with them did not run from the Jaguar and was identified as 24-year-old Fresno resident Deshawn Hackett Jr. He had a $50,000 warrant for domestic violence-related charges out of San Diego County and was arrested, Hunter said.
Investigators later learned the three suspects and two women were associated with one another but they have not specified their relationships, Hunter said. He said one of the women admitted to being a prostitute.
