Sonoma Co. Man Gets Prison For DUI With Unrestrained Kids In Car

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) – A Sonoma County Superior Court judge sentenced a Cloverdale man to prison Tuesday for driving drunk with three children in his car a year ago.

Healdsburg police arrested Martin Reyes Rosales, 32, for DUI and child endangerment on Aug. 15, 2014, Sonoma County District Attorney Jill Ravitch said.

After he was pulled over for driving 70 mph in a 45 mph zone on Alexander Valley Road, police saw Rosales' three young children ages 4-11 in the front seat were not wearing seatbelts or in a child safety seat, Ravitch said.

Rosales appeared intoxicated and his blood-alcohol level was later determined to be 0.18 percent, Ravitch said. He was on probation at the time for a DUI with one child not properly restrained in the vehicle, Ravitch said.

Rosales pleaded no contest to three felony child endangerment charges and a misdemeanor count of DUI with blood alcohol level of 0.08 percent or more, Ravitch said.

Rosales also admitted having two prior DUI convictions within the past 10 years in Sonoma County, Ravitch said.

Judge Patrick Broderick sentenced Rosales to four years in state prison.

Ravitch said Rosales deserved a prison sentence because he repeatedly endangered citizens and his unrestrained young children.
