Volunteer Spends 12 Hours A Day Cooking For Valley Fire Evacuees

CALISTOGA (KPIX 5) – Smoke from a barbecue is the kind of smoke evacuees from the Valley Fire don't mind seeing. And that's exactly why Ron Foster has set up shop at the evacuation center.

"I was watching you guys on the news seeing this whole thing come down and I could not sit home and wait," Foster told KPIX 5.

Foster has been at the evacuation center for 12 hours a day since Saturday, donating his time, talent and 5,000 pounds of meat for evacuees.

TIMELINE:

"It's just nourishment, just comfort food making them feel better, someway, somehow," Foster said.

That kind of kindness has played a big part in making life at the evacuation center run smoothly. Food, donations, even free massage and acupuncture are all available for the people who right now have nothing.

"As a community this is amazing. I would have never imagined all these people would have gotten together to help everybody. It's a great feeling," said one evacuee.

"Oh, the people are so grateful. They're actually saying they're eating better here than they were at home," Foster said.

A GoFundMe site has been set up to help Foster with his expenses. Click here if you'd like more information on how to donate.
