Stanford Tops List Of World's Most Innovative Universities

STANFORD (CBS SF) – A Bay Area university in the heart Silicon Valley innovation is being recognized as the top innovative university in the world.

Stanford University appears at the top of Reuters' inaugural list of Top 100 innovative universities.

Reuters said it used an analysis of universities' academic papers and patent filings to compile the list.

While the top nine spots on the list are all U.S. schools, Reuters said Asian universities are a growing force in innovation and are particularly adept at turning scientific innovation into products.

Stanford enjoys a reputation for computer hardware and software, and its alumni have founded some of Silicon Valley's most successful companies, such as Google, Hewlett-Packard and Yahoo.
