MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- UPDATE Sunday Morning: Tassajara Fire Turns Deadly.

Monterey County officials issued mandatory evacuation orders late Saturday for an area north of the Jamesburg community because of a wildfire, county officials said.

The Tassajara Fire started at about 3 p.m. about 2.5 miles north of Jamesburg, Cal Fire officials said.

County officials have issued mandatory evacuations for residents who live between the intersections of Tassajara and East Carmel Valley roads and Tassajara and Cachagua roads.

The American Red Cross has opened a shelter for evacuees at Carmel Middle School at 4380 Carmel Valley Road, county officials said.

Advisory evacuations are in effect for residents living on Parrot Ranch Road to Jamesburg, county officials said.

The officials are asking residents of the advisory area to go west on Cachagua Road if they leave.

The fire was 10 percent contained Saturday night at 1,200 acres, according to Cal Fire.
