Seaside Man Convicted Of Beating, Strangling His Girlfriend
SEASIDE (CBS SF) -- A Seaside man has been convicted on multiple counts of domestic violence after beating and strangling his live-in girlfriend repeatedly one morning in June, according to the Monterey County district attorney's office.
Lassell Prince Stevens Jr., 56, was released from the Monterey County Jail on June 20. Prosecutors said he was in custody due to a domestic violence arrest the previous week.
Within 12 hours of his Stevens' release, police were contacted by the victim, who had fled to a neighbor's residence and called 911, according to prosecutors.
She said that Stevens had beaten and strangled her repeatedly that morning, prosecutors said.
A criminal trial in the Monterey County Superior Court found Stevens guilty of inflicting corporal injury on a cohabitant, assault with great bodily injury and four counts of violating a protective order, according to prosecutors.
Stevens is scheduled to be sentenced November 10, at which time he'll face a maximum of four years in prison, prosecutors said.
