Once Bed Bug-Ridden Libraries In Menlo Park, Palo Alto Reopen

(CBS SF) -- One Palo Alto library reopened Thursday after bed bugs were found last month in two chairs, while another will close again Friday to be checked that a bed bug treatment worked there, city officials said.

The Mitchell Park Library at 3700 Middlefield Road reopened at 10 a.m. after someone discovered bed bugs Sept. 23 on the first floor of the library, city officials said.

The library was re-inspected Wednesday, according to city officials.

The Rinconada Library at 1213 Newell Road is open Thursday but will be closed Friday so dogs can re-inspect it for bed bugs, city officials said.

The Rinconada Library, which previously closed Sept. 29 after bed bugs were found in two chairs, will then reopen Saturday, according to city officials.

At both libraries, pest control experts treated the surface and surrounding areas where the bugs were found, city officials said.

Library officials said if any users are concerned whether materials they've checked out have bed bugs, they may put the materials in a plastic bag and return them to any library.

Library officials will have each library checked regularly for bed bugs.

Palo Alto's neighboring city, Menlo Park, also had a library closure this week because of bed bugs. The library at 800 Alma St. was closed Wednesday after the discovery a day earlier of a bed bug in a public seating area.

The library reopened at 10 a.m. today, Menlo Park officials said.
