Vandals Carve Swastikas, Slurs Into Cars Parked At UC Davis

DAVIS (CBS SF) -- Vandals carved swastikas, etched religious slurs and slashed the tires of eight cars parked on the UC Davis campus this weekend.

The university has launched an investigation into the incident.

Campus police made the discovery on Saturday.

A similar incident occurred earlier this year, when swastikas were spray painted on a Jewish fraternity house. Several hate crimes were reported last year, as well.

Chancellor Linda Katehi issued a statement on the UC Davis websitesaying, "I am deeply troubled and disappointed that the campus community has experienced another incident that included damaged property and, even more grievously, offensive and disparaging slurs. This is conduct most unbecoming and completely against our principles of community."
