San Jose Woman Found Dead During Police Welfare Check

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) – Police have a person of interest in custody after finding the body of a dead woman during a welfare check Monday morning in San Jose.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, and a person of interest has been detained. Police have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Hugo Castro.

Officers conducting a welfare check in the first block of S. Third Street around 10:20 a.m. found a deceased woman who'd suffered at least one stab wound.

Investigators have said that Castro, a San Jose resident, had a prior dating relationship with the victim - who has not been named pending notification of next of kin.

"I've been here about two years now," said neighbor Eric Gonzales. "I haven't had any issues with my place and 95 percent of the time my door's always open. I keep it open during the day, during the night."
