Former Danville Teacher Gets 5 Years In Prison For Child Porn Possession

OAKLAND (CBS SF) – A former Danville middle school math teacher was sentenced to more than 5 years in prison today for possession of 50,000 photos and videos of child pornography, federal prosecutors said.

Mitchell Wolf, 60, pleaded guilty in July to a single count of possession of child pornography and was sentenced Thursdayby U.S. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton in Oakland, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Wolf, a Danville resident and former teacher at Diablo Vista Middle School, was arrested at his home last August by the Silicon Valley Crimes Against Children Task Force.

He was first charged in state court in Martinez but the case was later moved into federal court and the FBI took over the investigation.

Investigators found 50,000 digital photos and videos depicting child pornography on his personal computer and assorted CD-ROMs and DVDs in his home office and bedroom.

Many of the CD-ROMs and DVDs were hand-labeled to describe their contents, such as "PTHC" for "pre-teen hardcore," according to the U.S.  Attorney's Office. The files were obtained with peer-to-peer file sharing software.

Wolf reached a plea deal with prosecutors in July for the 65-month prison term. After he is released, he will serve a 10-year period of supervised release, during which his use of computers and the Internet will be limited and he will be prohibited from frequenting locations where children are present.

Wolf's prison term is expected to begin on Jan. 4.
