Third Rail Activated At Warm Springs BART Station, Signals Upcoming Opening

FREMONT (KCBS) -- Warning signs are now visible at the Warm Springs station in Fremont as BART activates the third rail Monday, marking a major milestone for BART's extension into the South Bay.

A notice from the police department warns physical contact with the third rail may result in death by electrocution.

BART passengers told KCBS they were less concerned about the dangers and just eager for the station to soon.

Paul Dylan started taking BART to his new tech job in San Francisco.

"I drove the first three times for the interviews and not taking BART to realize how awesome BART is," he said. "It was a nightmare driving to the city, paying for parking."

The Warm Springs extension, which will connect to the Silicon Valley extension, is planned to open in 2016, but BART officials say if everything goes according to plan, it could open before the end of the year.
