Nevada Owners Sought After Dog Survives Being Hit By Car In Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- Police are seeking the owners of a dog who survived being hit by a car in unincorporated Sonoma County outside Santa Rosa on Monday evening.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to a call after 10 p.m. of a dog that had been hit on Santa Rosa Avenue, just south of Todd Road.
Officers arrived to find that several vehicles not involved in the collision had stopped to block the lane where the medium-sized, brown pit bull mix was laying, according to CHP spokesman Jon Sloat.
There was no sign of the vehicle that struck the dog, Sloat said.
Officers determined that the dog appeared to be suffering from a broken leg and created a sling made from a large plastic bag to slide under the dog and allowed them to load him into the back seat of the patrol car.
CHP transported the dog to VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County, an emergency animal hospital in Rohnert Park for treatment, where he is currently recovering.
Animal hospital staff discovered that the dog, whose name tag says "Mr. Man," is microchipped and appears to belong to an owner located in Nevada.
According to CHP, hospital staff are currently in contact with the Nevada Humane Society and are attempting to track that person down.
