Twitter Replaces 'Favorite' Star Symbol With 'Like' Heart Symbol

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Twitter's struggles in growing its user base and keeping users around on the site for more than a fleeting tweet is well-documented, and apparently part of the solution to improve its fortunes is to make the site appear more Facebook-like.

Twitter (TWTR) says its getting rid of the term "favorites" in favor of "likes" while dropping the star associated with the "favorite" button for a heart, which is used by Facebook-owned Instagram.

The company says in a blog post that its making the change because while you make like a lot of things, not everything can be your favorite.

The changes will also be made to Twitter's Vine app.

Investors seemed receptive to the change, moving Twitter's shares higher Tuesday morning before pulling back in the afternoon. Twitter needs all the help it can get, having lost nearly half of its market value since beginning a slide in April on worries over user growth and engagement.
