Monterey Court Convicts Woman For Trying To Take $36,000 From Her Mother's Bank Account
MONTEREY (CBS SF) -- A 50-year-old woman was convicted in a Monterey County courtroom for attempting to take tens of thousands of dollars from her mother's bank account, the district attorney's office announced Friday.
A jury convicted Katherina Ferguson of attempted financial elder abuse, identity theft and second-degree murder, prosecutors said.
On August 28, 2014, Ferguson went into a bank in Monterey and filled out a withdrawal slip, using her then 80-year-old mother's account number, in an attempt to take out over $36,000, according to prosecutors.
Ferguson also had her mother's bank account statement with her and used it in an attempt withdraw the money, prosecutors said.
A bank employee suspected fraud and did not withdraw the requested funds.
It was later revealed that Ferguson's mother did not giver her permission to withdraw the money, according to prosecutors.
Ferguson faces up to 4 years in custody. She will be sentenced Wednesday, prosecutors said.
