Sacramento College Student Diagnosed With Tuberculosis
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- Health officials are asking 150 students at a Sacramento college to be tested for tuberculosis after their classmate was diagnosed with an active form of the disease.
The Sacramento Bee reports that the student was on the main American River College campus and a satellite in Natomas. Both locations are scheduled to hold free screening tests in December.
The Sacramento County Division of Public Health sent letters to everyone who shared a classroom with the student.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, TB usually attacks the lungs and can be fatal. It's spread through coughing, sneezing, speaking or singing.
Public Health division manager Pamela Harris says there is a low risk for contraction at the college.
