Person Shot Inside San Francisco SoMa Parking Garage

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A man has been hospitalized after he was shot inside a parking garage in San Francisco's South of Market Wednesday evening.

According to police, the shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. at the garage on Fifth and Mission Streets. Witnesses said the victim was trying to pay for parking at the manned booth inside the garage.

San Francisco police officers part of the department's safe shoppers program immediately cordoned off the garage in search for the gunman.

"We used our tactical units to do a systematic search floor by floor, to check all of the vehicles in the parking garage to make sure that the suspect wasn't still outstanding and on the loose," said Officer Carlos Manfredi of the San Francisco Police Department.

Shoppers who had their cars in the garage were locked out as police conducted the search. The garage was reopened two hours later after they could not find the gunman.

Police said it appeared the victim and the suspect knew each other. "This was one shooter targeting one individual," Manfredi said.

According to authorities, the victim is at San Francisco General Hospital in critical but stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds. He is expected to survive.
