Man Fires Warning Shot At Fremont Gas Station To Detain Alleged Bike Thieves

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- In order to get the attention of juveniles who allegedly stole bicycles from him on Tuesday, a man fired a gun into the air at a Fremont gas station, according to police.

At 6:36 p.m. that day, Fremont police officers were responding to a robbery call when they heard reports of a firearm going off at the Valero Gas Station at Fremont and Stevenson boulevards.

The officers arrived and detained the man allegedly responsible, who they learned had just had two bicycles stolen off his home's porch by two juveniles, police said.

Police said the man found the juveniles at the gas station, and he said he tried to detain them by firing a round into the air.

One of the juveniles did stop, but the other fled. The juvenile that stopped was arrested on suspicion of grant theft, police said.

The man's firearm was taken for evidence, police said, and the case is being submitted to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for complaint.
