Felon Dozes Off In Car, Allegedly Armed, Drunk With Motor Running In Monterey Co.

SEASIDE (CBS SF) -- A convicted felon was found asleep while allegedly armed and intoxicated in a running car Saturday morning in Seaside, police said.

Grady Clay, 45, of Seaside, was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and being a felon in possession of a stolen firearm, police said.

Around 7:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a man passed out in the driver's seat of a car blocking the road in the 1700 block of Lowell Street just north of Mingo Avenue, police said.

Officers arrived and found the man, later identified as Clay, sleeping while the car engine was running, according to police.

Multiple empty bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle and Lowell displayed signs of intoxication, police said.

When officers requested Clay to leave the car, a large firearm was seen on the vehicle's floorboard near the suspect's feet, according to police.

The firearm was determined to be a loaded .45-caliber Ruger revolver that was stolen, police said.

As a convicted felon, Clay was banned from possessing any firearms. He was booked into Monterey County Jail, police said.
