SFPD Investigating If 'Hot Cop Of The Castro' Was Intoxicated During Alleged Hit-And-Run

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- San Francisco police are investigating whether an officer on medical leave was intoxicated when he allegedly struck two pedestrians in the city's North Beach neighborhood, and fled the scene early Sunday morning.

Christopher Kohrs, known as the "Hot Cop of the Castro" was arrested early Sunday morning after the accident.

Witnesses say Kohrs left his car and ran off after hitting two men crossing a street.  He faces two charges of felony hit-and-run.

The two men were hospitalized with serious injuries, but are expected to survive.

Kohrs was released Sunday on $100,000 bail.  His attorney says he hasn't seen any evidence Kohrs was under the influence.

"I don't believe my client was drunk," Anthony Tall, Kohrs' attorney said.

Surveillance video released Monday shows a shadowy figure running from the scene of the accident as bystanders rush in to help the two injured pedestrians.

Kohrs gained attention for his good looks and muscular body. Last year, Kohrs became an internet heartthrob thanks to the fans who created a Facebook page in his honor. More than 50,000 Facebook users have "liked" the page.

The page includes photos his admirers have taken with him when he's out patrolling.
