Airbnb Tops Annual Survey Of Best Places To Work

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS-SF) – Citing the opportunity to travel, the company's core values and a nice work-life balance, the employees of San Francisco-based Airbnb rated the on-line travel firm as the best place to work in the annual survey released by Glassdoor.

It was an auspicious debut for Airbnb on the job search website.

An impressive 95 percent of Airbnb employees who responded to the annual survey said they would recommend to friends that they should seek employment opportunities with the company.

Other employee comments about working at Airbnb included:

"Paid happy hours every Thursday."

"My team is very driven but is also really adamant about work/life balance and my manager supports me in my personal and professional goals."

The cons listed focused primarily on the company's rapid growth.

"Some growing pains, but that is expected in any company in hypergrowth."

Boston's Bain and Company ranked second with 100 percent of the employees who responded approving of the work and business style of Managing Director Bob Bechek.

Ninety-five percent of the employees would encourage others to work there.

Foster City-based Guidewire, a developer of software for the insurance industry, ranked third with 93 percent of the employees responding that they would recommend working for the firm and the CEO Marcus Ryu getting a 97 percent approval rating.

Among the pros listed for the company was a widely held belief that "the people I routinely work with are all great – hard-working, honest, humble and always willing to help when I ask."

Hubspot – the developer of a marketing and sales platform located in Cambridge, Mass. – placed fourth with 88 percent of the employees saying they would recommend it as a place to work.

Among the positive comments was this widely held opinion – "It's not really about the beer and ping pong it's about the people you get to work with every day, training to build skills in sales you get to experience, and the potential for long term career growth that comes from working at a rocket-ship company like this."

Rounding out the top five was Menlo Park-based Facebook with Mark Zuckerburg getting a 97 percent approval ranking.

Among the favorable comments was -- "It might be easy to roll your eyes when people from Facebook say how open their culture is, but it's true; it's more open than any other place I've worked at."

The other Bay Area firms among the top 10 were LinkedIn which ranked sixth and Google which ranked eighth.
