Ice Cube Calls on Snoop Dogg as 'Honorary Eazy-E' for N.W.A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Tribute

By E. Parker

Ice Cube is already thinking ahead, after receiving news that N.W.A will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is looking to Snoop Dogg to fill-in for the deceased Eazy-E during the show's performance.

"I think we can get Ren, Yella and Dre together," Ice Cube told Rolling Stone. "I think Snoop might do an honorary Eazy. I can't speak for him, but we'll ask him. We'll probably ask a few people."

This year's inductees include Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, Steve Miller and and N.W.A., who had been passed over three times prior.

"It's hard to sum up exactly what it means," Cube says. "It means a lot of things. It means that the group's mark is kind of solidified. It's all legitimized in a way because the whole music industry has to honor the group in a way. It's just hard to sum up in words, really."

While Cube is down for an N.W.A performance, don't expect the attitudinal rappers to jam alongside everyone else for the big group all-star jam.

"I don't know [laughs]. It's all about if we can do something cool," he said. "If we're doing something and it's feeling kind of corny, I won't want to do it...They don't want to see some forced medley.

The year has been a landmark one for the group who popularized gangster rap. The N.W.A Biopic, Strait Outta Compton was a box office smash and helped give context to the music and the group's motives. The impact of the film is not lost on Cube.

"That's the thing that we were trying to show the audiences," he said. "Everyone knows the where and when, but a lot of people didn't know the why. The movie was able to connect some of those dots for people. Why were five youngsters out of Compton, California, rapping about this kind of stuff? It was basically trying to make sense of the world around us, in a lot of ways."

The 31st Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. HBO will broadcast the ceremony in spring 2016. Tickets for the show go on sale via Ticketmaster this Friday.
