CA Health Officials Warn Of Outbreak Of Norovirus 'Vomiting Disease'
SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- California health officials are warning of an uptick in cases of norovirus, also known as winter vomiting disease.
The California Department of Public Health says it has confirmed 32 outbreaks of norovirus in the state since Oct. 1, 2015 that have likely sickened hundreds of people.
Norovirus is highly contagious and usually triggers vomiting and diarrhea. It spreads through contact with an infected person, eating food or drinking liquids that contain the disease or touching contaminated surfaces or objects and then touching your mouth.
Health officials say people should wash their hands frequently with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds, and that hand sanitizers are not effective against norovirus.
