Repair Of Sinkhole In SF Noe Valley Expected To Continue Through Saturday

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Repairs to a sinkhole that appeared early Thursday morning in Noe Valley are expected to continue through the end of the day, Saturday, according to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

The 3-foot by 10-foot sinkhole closed Church Street between 24th and Jersey streets and damaged an 18-inch sewer line on Thursday.

City workers excavated the hole to evaluate the damage, but had to postpone repairs until after the New Year due to a lack of crucial safety equipment. Church Street was temporarily closed to traffic, but it reopened later that day with the trench covered by metal plates and cordoned off.

The work continues to affect passengers on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's J-Church light-rail line.

Shuttle bus service continues Saturday, with no service at the Glen Park Station or Randall stops, according to Muni officials.
