Sexual Assault Suspect Who Impersonated Cop Sought In Modesto

MODESTO (CBS SF) -- Authorities in Modesto have released a suspect sketch in a late November sexual assault during which the man impersonated a police officer.

According to a police, the 43-year-old female victim was driving in the early morning on November when she experienced car trouble and had to pull over.

The woman exited her car and was soon approached by a man dressed in plain clothes who identified himself as an officer with the Modesto Police Department.

The suspect threated to arrest the victim for a parking violation and got into the victim's vehicle, sitting in the front passenger seat.

After several minutes, the victim started her car and began driving with the suspect still inside. The victim drove into the parking lot of a neighborhood business and was groped in the chest by the suspect when she stopped.

The suspect then started to pull down his pants and tried to take the keys out of the ignition. At that point, the victim drove out of the parking lot and stopped near a group of individuals. When the suspect saw the group, he got out of the car and fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s. He is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 240 pounds. He has short facial hair with some acne scarring.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark colored hoodie, a baseball cap and sweatpants.

Police said the attack appears to be an isolated incident, since there have been no additional reports of similar assaults in Modesto. Detectives ask that anyone who can identify the suspect or has information on the assault case call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636.
