Police Identify Suspect Sought In Downtown Oakland Shooting
OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A suspect in a shooting that injured a bystander in downtown Oakland on Tuesday morning has been identified and police are asking for the public's help in finding him.
Cervando Jessie Sterling-Valdez, 22, is wanted for a shooting that took place in the 1300 block of Broadway shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.
According to police, the shooting occurred during an argument between Sterling-Valdez and an unidentified man.
The intended target of the shooting was not hit, but the gunfire struck a woman who was standing nearby.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
A police watch commander witnessed the shooting and pursued Sterling-Valdez into the 1400 block of Broadway, where he was last seen. The intended victim also fled the scene, according to police.
Officers who canvassed the area were able to recover a firearm that may have been used in the shooting, along with other evidence, police said.
Sterling-Valdez is described as being 5 foot 8 inches tall, weighing 153 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a light colored coat and white pants.
