Iconic Rapper Snoop Dogg Talks About 'Snooper Bowl,' Tech Investing

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- He's one of the biggest rap stars in the game, but on the field, he's known as Coach Snoop.

SoCal hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg founded his Snoop Youth Football League 11 years ago to help kids in the inner city.

He will be at San Jose City College for the "Snooper Bowl" this Saturday when his all-star players face off not far from Levi's Stadium. His league now has 15 teams in Northern California.

KPIX 5 reporter Betty Yu asked the rapper if the Snooper Bowl was approaching the scale of the Super Bowl.

"Oh yeah baby, it's probably bigger than [the Super Bowl]. We just don't have all those sponsors and commercials, you know what I'm sayin'? But we do our thing," explained Snoop.

One of his alums has made it to the Super Bowl: Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman. Snoop will be watching him Sunday.

"It's all about the game," said Snoop. It's about the kids that aspire to play in the Snooper Bowl. To see that a kid that played in the Snooper Bowl that's actually playing in the Super Bowl, it was inspiring,That's what we do it for."

A regular visitor to the Bay Area who performs in the region several times a year, Snoop is happy the big game is being held here.

"The Bay Area is a beautiful place to do something like this, said Snoop. All the Super Bowls that the 49ers won out here to be able to have a Super Bowl hosted here is a beautiful tribute to football in general."

When he's isn't busy performing at Bay Area hot spots, he's investing.  He recently dropped serious cash on SF-based coffee shop chain Philz Coffee. He is also considered among Silicon Valley royalty in terms of investing, particularly in some marijuana-related startups.

"I love being tech savvy and I feel like this is the future of the world, said Snoop. To be involved in the tech world and for me to dibble and dabble in it and get in it and see what works for me and what doesn't it's just an extension of my business. I'm a part of show business. I mastered the show; now it's time to master the business."
