Thousands Of Fans Shut Out As SFPD Closes Gates To Super Bowl City

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Super Bowl City reached full capacity around 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, forcing police to close the entrances to scores of fans who wanted in.

"Exit only, exit only, you will not get back in," shouted an officer to fans leaving the area.

By about 6 p.m. police announced the gates of Super Bowl would remain closed for the evening.

Tens of thousands of people visited Super Bowl City Saturday. Crowd estimates number at about a million, so far.

Alicia Keyes was scheduled to perform at around 8:15 p.m. and many people arrived several hours early to make sure they could see the R&B songstress.

Friday night the gates were closed just after 8 p.m., leaving thousands of angry people in the streets. At one point, they rushed an entrance and 100 people broke through the barricades.
