Chunk Of San Francisco's Marina Green Breaks Apart From Storms, Leaving Gaping Hole To Water Below

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The bulkhead along San Francisco's Marina Green has been eroded, leaving a gaping hole offering a beautiful view, but not one you're supposed to see underneath a sidewalk.

"I haven't seen them do anything about it," fisherman Vy Tuck told KPIX 5.

Tuck says the hole opened up after the last storm. And, considering the area is his usual fishing spot, he should know. We tried to talk to public works about it, but they didn't return our call. In the meantime, the hole has been getting larger and larger according to Tuck.

"It looks worse than expected. It's getting washed out from underneath there," Tuck said.

There's no caution tape, or warning or danger signs.

This is the latest discovery of a coastal cave in this season. Last month in Pacifica, a whole portion of the bulkhead collapsed into the ocean.

"What seems different this year is this barrage of storms, just one after another, outpacing the city's ability to respond," Pacifica City Manager Lorie Tinfow said.
