Oakland Police Confirm Officer Arrested For Assault In December

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- An off-duty Oakland police officer was arrested in December for suspicion of assault, police said Tuesday.

Oakland police confirmed that Officer Cullen William Faeth was arrested on Dec. 7 during an incident involving four off-duty police officers.

Faeth was arrested and he and the other three officers were placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation. The case has been sent to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office for possible criminal prosecution, police said.

Police declined to provide any further details about the alleged assault, calling the case a "personnel matter" and citing an ongoing internal affairs investigation.

The incident went unreported for months with no comment from the department until a leaked report in the East Bay Express detailed the allegations against Faeth.

"The Oakland Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct involving our employees seriously," police said in a statement today. "Ensuring internal investigations are swift, fair and objective is our priority."
