WALNUT CREEK (KCBS) — 66 years after Dunkin Donuts was first founded on the East Coast, the popular doughnut chain is making its debut in the Bay Area.

A shop opening this spring in Walnut Creek will be the first of dozens coming to the region over the next few years.

The shop will open on Newell Avenue, where a Taco Bell just closed its doors last week.

Sarah Nelson, who grew up going to the chain in Arkansas and Virginia, says she can’t wait until the donuts are sold in the Bay Area.

“They have to be by far the best cheap coffee, I mean it puts all the other $2 coffees and $3 coffees like that to shame,” she said.
