Armed Antioch Carjacking Suspect Caught After Fleeing Police

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) – A parolee who allegedly stole a vehicle in an armed carjacking was arrested Wednesday morning in Antioch after he fled from police and scuffled with officers, according to police.

Antioch police detectives initially spotted the man, identified as 28-year-old Justin Griffin, around 10 a.m. driving a vehicle that was reportedly stolen at gunpoint several days earlier.

Griffin, described by police as a parolee who had warrants for his arrest, allegedly sped away from officers who tried to make contact with him.

After a short pursuit, Griffin collided with a vehicle on Delta Fair Boulevard near Somersville Road, located near the border between Antioch and Pittsburg, according to police.

He still tried to flee on foot but officers caught up to him in the parking lot of a nearby business. Police said Griffin fought with the officers before he was taken into custody.

Both Griffin and the driver he collided with were medically evaluated at a hospital as a precaution, police said. There were no reported injuries.

After Griffin was released from the hospital, he was taken to Martinez Detention Facility.
