Dismembered Body Found Near Dumbarton Bridge ID'd As Missing Brisbane Woman

BRISBANE (CBS SF) – Authorities on Wednesday positively identified the human remains recovered near the Dumbarton Bridge in as those of missing Brisbane woman Shelly Titchener in addition to establishing her husband as a suspect in this case.

The 57-year-old Titchener was first reported as missing and at risk by authorities on February 20. The following evening, a dismembered torso was found on a levee in Fremont by a group of people fishing at the Dumbarton Pier.

Investigators confirmed that a torso belonging to an unidentified female was found. The victim's arms, legs and head - which appear to have been severed from the torso - were not located, according to police.

Several days later, authorities announced the torso could belong to Titchener. Her husband, Paul Titchener, died by suicide the evening of February 23 by jumping from the San Francisco Bay Bridge, according to police.

He was a person of interest, but police did not have enough information and evidence to name him as a suspect in the case until Wednesday.

Last weekend on February 28, hikers found additional remains along the shoreline near the Dumbarton Bridge.

With the new evidence, the Alameda County Coroner's Office was able to positively identify the remains found on February 21 as belonging to Shelly Titchener.  The identification was made by a right thumbprint match to DMV records.

Authorities said there are still remains yet to be discovered and recovered.  The Brisbane Police Department was not offering further comment on what parts of the remains are outstanding, but said in a statement that here is no longer an active search for evidence or remains along the Fremont Shoreline.

Brisbane police are in the process of obtaining search warrants for computers and mobile devices belonging to both Shelly and Paul Titchener, which were taken from the couple's home and Paul Titchener's business during the execution of search warrants on February 24.

Additionally, authorities are working on obtaining credit card and banking records for both Shelly and Paul Titchener for the days leading up to these events. Police are also currently working to obtain any license plate reader information possibly pertaining to the case from the surrounding Bay Area.
