Richmond Cop Car Sideswiped By Suspected DUI Driver
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- Police arrested a 40-year-old man early Sunday morning in Richmond on suspicion of DUI, police said.
An officer was patrolling the city's Northern District at 2:15 a.m. when a car pulled away from a curb and sideswiped the officer's fully marked patrol car as the two vehicles passed each other in opposite directions.
The officer stopped the driver and smelled alcohol on the man.
The man performed poorly on sobriety tests and the officer arrested him on suspicion of DUI, according to police.
The suspect's blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit for DUI.
Police said several ways exist for people to get home after drinking. Designate a driver, call a sober friend or relative, take a taxi or a ride-booking service.
Police are asking people to avoid drinking and driving because some actions can alter a person's life forever.
