Moving To Canada Because Of Presidential Candidates Easier Said Than Done

KCBS_740SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Many liberals are promising to move to Canada if Donald Trump makes it to the White House, but a Canadian immigration lawyer says it's much easier said than done.

Rush Limbaugh was among those who threatened to move to Canada if Barack Obama was elected president in 2008, and now that Donald Trump has a real shot at the White House, liberals are threatening the same.

Henry Chang, an immigration attorney in Toronto says it is not so simple.

"They say they're gonna do it, but when they start looking into it, they realize it's not as easy as they think," Chang said.

Chang did successfully snag a spot in Canada for a well-known woman from a very famous '80s band after George Bush was elected. He won't say who, and some of his colleagues have recently been overwhelmed with phone calls on the issue. But, most people back off when they get the facts.

"It's not that easy. Unless you're sponsored by an employer, you have to go through what's called express entry - basically a pool," Chang said.

Everyone is ranked, and immigration picks who they want. And, that's even before you can apply for a residency.

Boning up on your French might help.
