Deputy Hurt, 3 Arrested In Early Morning Chase Along I-280 In Peninsula
SAN MATEO COUNTY (CBS SF) – Sheriff's deputies arrested a man on suspicion of assaulting two deputies and took two women into custody on suspicion of resisting arrest early Thursday morning in Millbrae after a chase through San Mateo County.
Deputies arrested 24-year-old San Bruno resident Alexander Reyes on suspicion of assaulting deputies, hit-and-run, eluding deputies, driving on a suspended license, resisting arrest and violating parole, San Mateo County sheriff's officials said.
Deputies also arrested 18-year-old Redwood City resident Myra Ochoa and 22-year-old Redwood City resident Breiza Sandoval on suspicion of resisting arrest.
The three suspects were in a white Dodge Durango in a parking lot of Canada Community College at 4200 Farm Hill Blvd. near Redwood City when deputies were checking the college's parking lot at 12:03 a.m., according to the sheriff's office.
When one of the deputies tried to speak with the trio, Reyes allegedly tried to flee by driving in reverse. As he was backing up, the Dodge struck a deputy's patrol car as the deputy was getting out of it.
Reyes then allegedly sped at the deputy who tried to talk with the suspects, sheriff's officials said. The deputy escaped injury.
The Dodge left the parking lot and traveled through San Mateo on Interstate Highway 280 until it exited at San Bruno Avenue.
The Dodge went east on San Bruno Avenue and into a residential neighborhood in San Bruno, where it collided head-on with a deputy's patrol car in the 800 block of Kains Avenue, sheriff's officials said.
The vehicle kept going through San Bruno until it lost its right front tire and came to a stop at the Best Western Plus El Rancho Inn at 1100 El Camino Real in Millbrae, sheriff's officials said.
The three suspects ran from the Dodge until deputies chased them down and arrested them.
The deputy whose car Reyes allegedly rammed in San Bruno suffered minor injuries and has since been released from a hospital, according to the sheriff's office.
Reyes also suffered minor injuries in the collision and has been released from a hospital.
The three suspects have been booked into the county jail. Acting sheriff's spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt said she did not know what the three were doing in the college's parking lot. The investigation is ongoing.
