Pro Soccer Team Coming To Kezar Stadium In San Francisco

KCBS_740 SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Professional soccer in San Francisco is one step closer to reality Thursday.

The Recreation and Parks commissioners approved the application of the North American Soccer League to bring the Deltas to Kezar Stadium.

The team already has the support of many soccer lovers in San Francisco, but Kezar's immediate neighbors are worried about parking, and traffic issues.

Eileen Auerbach told the commission, "My issue is the demand…to waive the 25-year ban of alcohol consumption in the stadium."

The commission says they do have plans to address neighbors' concerns.

Brian Helmick, CEO of the Deltas hopes to fill the seats at Kezar for 15 to 20 games per year.

"So, we're gonna make sure that at least 3,000 tickets are discounted tickets for $20 or less," Helmick said.

The first game would be played in about a year, after the Deltas make improvements to the stadium.
