Facebook No Longer Supporting Blackberry Phones

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- More bad news for beleaguered Blackberry.

Facebook announced it is pulling support for Blackberry phones. The Qwerty-keyboard friendly phone devices will no longer be able to connect to the the social media network via an app.

The announcement follows a similar move by WhatsApp last month.

Blackberry told users the company tried to head off the decision but it was beyond their control

"We are extremely disappointed in their decision as we know so many users love these apps. We fought back to work with WhatsApp and Facebook to change their minds," wrote BlackBerry Senior Marketing Manager Lou Gazzola in a blog post. "But at this time, their decision stands (but let them know how you feel on social media, using the hashtag #ILoveBB10Apps)."

Sales of Blackberry devices have plummeted in recent years. According to CNET, compared to Apple and Android, Blackberrys account for only 0.1 percent of sales.
