Serial Bank Robber Hits Banks In Lafayette, Rio Vista On Same Day

RIO VISTA (CBS SF) -- A serial Bay Area bank robber hit a Rio Vista bank Monday, about an hour after also robbing a bank in Lafayette, a police sergeant said Tuesday morning.

The suspect started at a Chase Bank branch at 3492 Mt. Diablo Blvd. at about 3:30 p.m. Monday, Lafayette police Sgt. Howard Shiells said.

Shiells said the man, who is suspected in a string of recent Bay Area bank robberies, took an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank before traveling from Contra Costa County to Solano County.

Shiells confirmed the man was later involved in a robbery that Rio Vista police were dispatched to at 4:56 p.m. at a Bank of Stockton branch at 230 Main St.

Responding officers did not find the suspect, who allegedly demanded money using a note, according to a post on the Rio Vista Police Department's Facebook page.

The man, described by police as a white man in his 30s with a trimmed beard standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall, also used a note demanding cash in a March 11 robbery at a Wells Fargo bank branch at 4599 Clayton Road in Concord.

Rio Vista police said the suspect on Monday was wearing a black windbreaker with a white collar and two horizontal white stripes across the chest, blue jeans, white shoes and a black baseball cap with a green Monster logo.

Anyone with information on the suspect has been asked to call the Rio Vista Police Department at (707) 374-2300.
