'Bearded Bandit' Suspected Of 11 Bank Robberies Arrested
BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) -- Brentwood police believe they've caught a man known as the "Bearded Bandit" wanted for 11 bank robberies in at least seven Northern California cities.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Brentwood police took the suspect into custody at Claremont Drive and Woodsong Lane.
Brentwood police transferred the suspect over to Concord police, where he was taken to the police station for questioning and processing.
The "Bearded Bandit" is allegedly tied to at least 11 bank robberies, as well as one attempted robbery and three casing incidents, in seven Northern California cities, Brentwood police said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation released photos of the "Bearded Bandit" inside banks in Fremont on February 12, in Elk grove on March 1, and in Gilroy on march 4.
The FBI said in each of the robberies, the suspect, who is between 25 and 35 years old, approached a teller, presented a demand note, and then placed the money he received in a black bag he carried with him.
The suspect had short brown hair and "a full, groomed beard," the FBI said. During the robberies, the FBI said the suspect was wearing a variety of sunglasses, hats, and shirts with dark pants.
On Wednesday night, law enforcement officials had not released the name of the arrested suspect.
