Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep Wins 5th State Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Limar'l Thomas had 30 points, 15 rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals to lead Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep to a 50-47 victory over Lakeside in the CIF Girls' Division III state championship.

Thomas was 10-for-22 from the field and 10-for-14 at the free-throw line for the Sacred Heart Fighting Irish (21-9), who won their fifth state title.

Emma Merriweather finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds, Trian Thompson had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Mya Victor added six-blocked shots for the Lakeside Lancers (29-6).

There were six lead changes and seven ties before Sacred Heart took a 24-22 halftime lead.

Lakeside regrouped to end the third quarter with a 36-33 lead. After Thomas tied the game at 43-43 on a three-point play with 4:32 remaining, Sacred Heart only needed seven points, the last three by Thomas, in the final 3:28 to take the title.
