Solano County Sheriff Releases Sketch Of Suspect Who Assaulted Hikers

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- The Solano County Sheriff's Office released a sketch Friday of a man who allegedly robbed and assaulted a pair of hikers in a wildlife area near Lake Berryessa last week.

After meeting with one of the victims, a composite sketch artist was able to compose a picture of the suspect, police said.

The incident occurred on March 25 around 3 p.m., when two women were hiking in the Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve in unincorporated Solano County, according to sheriff's officials.

The unknown suspect approached the two women, aged 18 and 59. The man brandished a handgun and forced the two women off the trail to a secluded area, sheriff's officials said.

The suspect assaulted one of the women before demanding money from pair. He then fled on foot, according to sheriff's officials.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man about 25 years old, 5 foot 5 inches to 5 foot 6 inches tall, with short black hair and a light mustache. He wore a burgundy shirt, black pants, and gray and white tennis shoes.

Additionally, the suspect spoke broken English and had a heavy accent, sheriff's officials said.

Anyone with the information about the incident is asked to contact Detective Andrew Hendrix at (707) 784-7058. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can call (707) 644-7867.
