Red Bus, Taxi Lanes Cutting Into Bottom Line, SF Merchants Say

KCBS_740 SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The bright red bus and taxi lanes popping up on San Francisco streets are not getting rave reviews from merchants, who say they are cutting into their bottom line.

The lanes are supposed to speed up Muni service, and help buses and taxis avoid double parked cars, and cars making turns, but merchants say fewer customers are coming into their stores where the red lanes have been painted.

The SFMTA has delayed implementing the new lanes on Chestnut Street in the Marina District due to the complaints, the Examiner reported.

The lanes eliminate parking spaces.
