Brazen Sunnyvale Smash-And-Grab Caught On Camera
SUNNYVALE (CBS SF) -- Police in Sunnyvale on Friday were investigating an early morning smash-and-grab burglary caught on surveillance cameras at a local pizza shop.
The burglary happened at 1:15 a.m. Friday morning
The surveillance video provided by Zpizza on Tasman Avenue in Sunnyvale shows the two suspects coming through a shattered glass front door after smashing the door with a large rock.
The first thief who enters the restaurant can be seen plowing through the shattered glass with his head. Jumping the counter wasnt so easy. He struggles over because his shorts have slipped down to his knees.
The moment might prove helpful to police. The suspect can be seen touching the cash register monitor with his bare hands. He pauses briefly and tries to wipe away the fingerprints.
"He knows what he's doing, so already has some experience with this one," said the owner of Zpizza, who did not want his name used.
The suspects somehow knew exactly where the restaurant safe was and head straight for it.
One of the suspects carries out that heavy safe by himself, which had about $300. From the moment they stormed in to the exit was 28 seconds.
The owner quit his job in high tech and opened the restaurant about a year ago. He told KPIX 5 margins are thin and the restaurant barely turns a profit.
"I definitely believe in karma," said the owner. "How they would feel? How they would feel if they are in my shoes?"
Sunnyvale police investigators came to the scene and dusted for fingerprints. They also took the rock as evidence and got copies of the surveillance video.
The case is still under investigation.
