A's Majority Owner Reportedly Takes Leading Role In Stadium Push

OAKLAND (KCBS) – Oakland A's managing partner Lew Wolff is reportedly taking a back seat in the team's ongoing quest to build a new stadium to replace the aging Oakland Coliseum.

KCBS, KPIX 5 and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier in Sunday's Matier and Ross column said team majority owner John Fisher is spending more time looking for alternative venues.

Fisher appears to be interested in a ballpark close to downtown, although the team is also said to be considering a site at Laney College.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's push for a new ballpark at Howard Terminal is not high on the team's list of sites because of poor BART and freeway access.

Ahead of the A's season opener last week, Overstock.com announced that it decided not to renew its contract for naming rights to the Coliseum.
