Original 'Star Wars' Trilogy Heading Back To The Big Screen

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF/AP) — On the heels of "The Force Awakens," the original "Star Wars" trilogy is coming back to theaters this summer.

The Alamo Drafthouse announced Tuesday that it will roll out a "Star Wars" road show beginning August 6th in select cities. The three films — "A New Hope," ''The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" — will typical play in back-to-back-to-back screenings. The three films will be presented in their 1997 re-release format.

The films will play in about 20 cities through August, including two stops in the Bay Area, the independent theater chain said. The road show will kick off on August 6th at The Warfield in San Francisco. On August 20th, the show will stop by The Paramount Theatre in Oakland and end in Denver, Colorado with a date to be determined.

J.J. Abrams' "The Force Awakens" is playing in several hundred theaters and has released on Digital/BluRay. The film has made more than $935 million in North America.
