Teen Suspects In Millbrae Armed Robbery, I-880 Search Arrested

MILLBRAE (CBS SF) – Authorities announced Friday that they have arrested four teenage suspects in an armed robbery in Millbrae that led to a search briefly shutting down all lanes of I-880 in Fremont Thursday afternoon.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office said the armed robbery happened Thursday at the Millbrae Car Wash located at 310 Adrian Road. A 31-year-old female victim was confronted at the car wash by a Hispanic male in his teens.

The suspect pushed the victim to the ground and pointed a handgun at her before stealing her purse and her personal electronic devices.

The suspect then fled the scene in a white Honda Civic with three other teens. This victim was not injured.

The vehicle then came across the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge to the East Bay where it was spotted by Fremont police on I-880. Officers initiated a brief pursuit that ended in a crash at about 3:30 p.m. All four suspects fled the scene on foot.

Authorities briefly shut down all lanes of I-880 during the suspect search and investigation. All four were taken into custody Thursday afternoon, police said.

The suspects, all male Hispanic juveniles, ages 16-17, are from the San Leandro and Hayward areas, according to authorities.

Sheriff's investigators said the teens are suspected gang members. Evidence was uptained that suggests they committed several robberies from San Francisco County to Alameda County in the past two days.

Property from the purse snatch robbery in Millbrae and firearm used were recovered in the white Honda Civic which was also determined to be stolen. All four subjects were booked into San Mateo County Juvenile Hall.

A multi-agency investigation into other robberies committed by these suspects is still ongoing. Investigators believe there are other victims of unreported robberies.
