$7M Lawsuit Filed After Alleged Assault By Oakland City Councilwoman

KCBS_740 OAKLAND (KCBS) -- Former Black Panther Party leader Elaine Brown has filed a lawsuit against the city of Oakland and Councilwoman Desley Brooks over an alleged assault last year.

Brown is seeking $1 million from the city, and $6 million from Brooks.  She claims Brooks punched her in the chest, knocking her over following an argument at a restaurant in Jack London Square last October.

Brown says she now suffers from severe, permanent and debilitating injuries.

Brown headed the Black Panther Party from 1974 to 1977, and serves as an aide to Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson
